The 2012 NMC Summer Conference has a new schedule this year!  The conference will begin on Tuesday, June 12 with the Preconference Workshops and Opening Reception and  close at 12 noon on Friday, June 15 with the NMC Fellows Award and closing session.

The 2012 NMC Summer Conference will offer attendees an extensive range of sessions and activities from which to choose, including an opening keynote address from Joichi Ito, Director of the MIT New Media Lab; and closing remarks by Lord David Puttnam, recepient of the NMC Fellows Award; Five Minutes of Fame; Poster, Interactive and Art Show Sessions judged by peers; Preconference Workshops; and more than 36 informative sessions highlighting the innovative work of colleagues from around the world.

Immersive Studio Workshops and Preconference Workshops

The conference will include half-day and full-day Preconference Workshops. These extended-length workshops provide attendees the chance to explore a topic in depth or participate in hands-on training in a variety of new software programs. All workshops require advance registration and payment of a special fee in addition to the normal Summer Conference registration fees. The Immersive Studio Workshops will be held Monday/Tuesday June 11-12, and Preconference Workshops will be held Tuesday, June 12.

Breakout Sessions

The 2012 NMC Summer Conference will offer around 40 breakout sessions, each 60 minutes in length with 10-15 minutes of question and answer at the end. Sessions will include presentations and panel discussions.  Please note this is a different format from the previous year's program.

Conference Session Paths

This year's program focuses on six key session paths that include:

  • Imagine
  • Explore
  • Play
  • Create
  • Transform
  • Reflect

Fellows Award

Friday, June 15 the conference will close with recognition to a visionary and leader in technology with the distinguished NMC Fellows Award presented to Lord David Puttnam.

Five Minutes of Fame

The Five Minutes of Fame will be held in a general session on Thursday, June 14. In the fast-paced Five Minutes of Fame, selected NMC members will have only five minutes to showcase and tell their remarkable stories -- and if they run out of time, a gong will signal that their Five Minutes of Fame are up! This unusual session is fast, fun, and a great overview of some of the outstanding work taking place on NMC member campuses.

Posters, Interactives and Art Show Sessions

The NMC Summer Conference will again feature Poster Sessions which offer an opportunity to showcase a campus or member project. The conference will also include Interactives, an electronic poster-like exhibition designed to showcase online materials, including software, tools, research, and more. For the second time, the conference will also include Art Show pieces representing digital, technology and new media works. The Posters, Interactives and Art Show Session will be jointly held on Wednesday, June 13. All three of these presentation formats will be evaluated by a group of peer judges, with the winners announced at the end of the session.
